He stated: Cholera bacteria is usually found in water or food contaminated by the feces of a person infected with cholera bacteria; This disease generally develops and spreads in places with insufficient water purification, inappropriate and unsanitary disposal of feces or sewage, as well as areas with insufficient sanitation. Cholera bacteria can also live in the environment of salty rivers and coastal waters.
He continued: The most common way to transmit this disease is drinking water or eating food contaminated with Vibriocholera bacteria, contamination of hands may also cause disease transmission; In cholera epidemic conditions, the source of contamination is usually the feces of an infected person, which leads to contamination of water or food.

The disease is generally not transmitted through direct person-to-person contact; Therefore, accidental contact with an infected person is not a risk factor for contracting the disease.
Dr. Miri stated: Cholera infection is often mild or without symptoms, but in some cases it can be associated with severe symptoms; About 75% of people infected with this microbe have no obvious clinical symptoms, and about 20% of them have mild or moderate acute diarrhea symptoms that cannot be distinguished from diarrhea caused by other organisms.
He said: The incubation period of this disease means the time interval between the entry of cholera bacteria into the body and the appearance of clinical symptoms is usually two to three days, but this time can last from a few hours to five days.
Director of Internal Specialist Services Center of Khorasan Razavi University said: If you think you or one of your family members may have cholera, you should immediately seek medical care. Since dehydration can happen quickly, it is necessary to replace fluids quickly.
He added: If you have ORS powder to prepare oral liquid therapy solution, start using it immediately. Rapid initiation of fluid intake can save a life; Continue drinking ORS at home until you reach a health facility for medical care.
